Gigondas

This charming and picturesque little village is at the base of the Dentelles de Montmirail.

A number of hiking trails lead from the village to the Dentelles.  The main square and commercial area is lined with plane trees, under which one can enjoy a great Provencal meal or a snack.   Amongst the ruins of the ancient fortifications,  rises the ruins of the castle of the Princes of Orange,   while the old wall climbs on to a ridge high above the village.

Wine is foremost in the produce of the village  which also has its own Gigondas appellation  as well as being included as a part  of the Cote du Rhone wine growing area.
