Mt. Ventoux
Considered the gateway to Provence, Mt. Ventoux towers in the distance as you drive south.
This mountain is 1909 meters high (6,263 ft.) – and on a clear day the view from its summit ranges from as far as the
Mediterranean, to the south to the Alps in the north – including Mont Blanc.
During the summer, the road to the summit is open and it is possible to drive to the top where there is a viewing area, restaurants and shops.
There are hiking trails that run in all directions, following ridges and valleys.
Mt. Ventoux has been the a part of the Tour de France cycling route as recently as 2009 and is enjoyed by serious bike riders.
It is a very popular picnic spot for relaxing picnics during the warm months and is a great day trip “snow outing” during the winter.
