Richeranches

A small medieval village that is well know for two reasons: (1)  its rich history as the Keep of the Knights Templar from 1136 – this command center of the Knights Templar in this region is very well preserved and is open to the public; and (2) it is the Truffle Capital of Provence and the center of truffle activity during the fall and winter months, hosting a weekly “Truffle Market” each Saturday morning, and the 3rd Sunday in January sees an influx of visitors from all parts of France and many other countries for the annual Truffle Mass.  Attendees bring truffles as their offerings to the church.

On the first Sunday of May,  the village is adorned with flowers and plants of all kinds for their annual Flower Market.  In addition to purchasing flowers and plants, the sight of the old Medieval village dressed up with colorful flowering plants decorating the old rock walls and arches is well worth the visit.
